Pioneer of Cosmetic Botox, World-Renowned Cosmetic Surgeon, Award-Winning Researcher & Author

Globally recognized for her expertise in research and clinical work in cosmetic surgery and noninvasive cosmetic procedures, Dr. Jean Carruthers has played a pivotal role in the development of today’s cosmetics industry. With her husband, Dr. Alastair Carruthers, in the late 1980s she pioneered the cosmetic use of botulinum A exotoxin (“Botox”), which has since grown to become the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world.

Having authored nearly 400 peer-reviewed scientific publications, 70 book chapters and 9 textbooks, Dr. Jean continues to research cosmetic treatments for maximum efficacy and safety. Her research has been recognized internationally through numerous prestigious awards.

As a highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Jean has given thousands of presentations on cosmetic surgery and continues to lecture on the global stage. Currently, she is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at UBC.
